Burgo Sudi Mampir
This typical food of Jambi has been hard to find. One of the sellers who still survive is Mr. Ahmad Asbi (51 years), who sells burgo since 1970s.
Burgo is made of the mixture of rice flour and sago. “I usually use sagu tani for the mixture”, said him.
The dough then made such a rather thick pancake, and then rolled lengthwise. It tastes chewy. When serving it, burgo is cut short, and afterward a savory broth of coconut milk poured into it, with a sprinkling of fried onions.
The coconut milk broth is made of shrimp and fish stock. Mr. Ahmad can sell up to 50 portion of burgo in one day. Burgo is the best-seller menu in his simple shop, named “Sudi Mampir”.
Moreover, there is also “nasi gemuk”, rice cooked with coconut milk, similar with “nasi uduk” in Jakarta. For its food accompaniment, there are fried anchovy, shredded omelet, crackers, fried peanuts, and chili sauce. This chili sauce is special, sweet and tasty, and made of tomato, red chili, brown sugar, white sugar, and seasoning powder, all cooked for one hour until blackish.
Want to find more unique than them? Try “lontong kuah nangka” (rice cake with jackfruit gravy), which is also a typical food of Jambi. Moreover, there are traditional cakes of Jambi, such as bolu kojo, lumpang cake, haji serban (made of glutinous rice and rice flour), sweet potato martabak, rissoles, and pempek. All heavy meals cost for Rp 2,500.00 per portion, whereas cakes and fried snacks cost Rp 500.00 per piece.
