Garuda Indonesia inaugurated two new simulators for Airbus A330-Series and Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft and signed a Human Capital Development agreement with General Electric (GE) at the Garuda Indonesia Training Center (GITC) in Duri Kosambi, Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday 16 December 2011 to support its ongoing fleet expansion.

The inauguration and signing ceremony was attended by the Vice-Minister of Transportation, Mr. Bambang Susantono, Ambassador of Canada, H.E.  Mackenzie Clugston, representatives of the US and French embassies, President & CEO of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk., Emirsyah Satar, Director General of Air Transportation, Mr. Herry Bhakti S. Gumay, and CEO GE Indonesia, Handry Satriago.

Bambang Susantono, Vice-Minister of Transportation, noted that after witnessing Garuda Indonesia’s successful turn-around, the airline’s ongoing improvements must include ongoing training, particularly for its Pilots. “These two factors go hand-in-hand and are vital for the airline’s success,” added Bambang.

Emirsyah Satar, Garuda Indonesia President & CEO, explained that to prepare for rapid growth in the aviation industry in Indonesia , the airline has launched its “Quantum Leap 2015” program which calls for the airline’s fleet to grow to over 154 aircraft by 2015, when it will comprise twenty-five A330-200s and eighty B737-800NGs. Mr. Satar went on to say, “These two flight simulators will complement existing facilities and infrastructure at the Garuda Indonesia Training Center to produce skilled pilots and reduce pilot training costs by 50%, eliminating the need to send pilots abroad for training.”

Currently, Garuda Indonesia has approximately 1000 pilots and will recruit another 400 pilots in the future to fulfill the requirements of an expanded fleet.

The Flight Simulators were manufactured by CAE of Montreal, Canada, which offers the industry’s most complete and comprehensive portfolio of fully integrated simulation solutions for civil and military aviation. CAE’s state-of-the-art all-electric motion system provides more accurate and authentic cues for pilot training. It’s also more environmentally-friendly than hydraulic-based motion systems-reducing electricity consumption by 40%.
