Jambi Example For Forest Expand

Jambi Province will become one of the destination areas to build the forest. Management of this area will involve the community living there. “With this system, the goal is not only make permanent forests sustainably, but also at the same time help improve the living standard of society”, said Arfan, Head of Regional Environmental Agency in Jambi Province.
To fund the program, the Australian Government, according to Arfan, is willing to disburse the cost of 30 million Australian dollars, equivalent to Rp 250 billion. The choice of Jambi province, because the condition of forests in this region is still considered relatively good, especially in some forest areas in national parks, forests and indigenous people’s forest parks.

Jambi Province will build a dry forest. While other regions are selected and get help, namely East Kalimantan Province, specialized areas of peat forest. The goal, is a form of government concern for Australia to reduce carbon emissions as the cause of global warming.

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer, last week, admitted if it is really serious to cooperate with Indonesia in an effort to build a forest. “We really want to cooperate to this problem, but we also do not force. When the government of Indonesia also has the same thoughts and desires, why not”, said Farmer.

Didy Wurjanto, Acting Head of the Natural Resources Conservation Jambi Province, stated, much benefit can be learned from this program plan later. “I thought not only to rebuild the damaged forest areas at once able to preserve it. In a later community activities will be included in its management, but not allowed to open the land for plantations or agriculture by using burning”, he said.

Some forest areas that are considered still pretty good in this area and need serious conservation, such as Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat, Taman Nasional Bukit Tigapuluh, Taman Nasional Bukit Dua Belas, Taman Nasional  Berbak, some indigenous forests and the People’s Forest Park.

It is said Didy, with a good forest areas, is also expected later produced carbon forest in Jambi Province will be sold to other developed countries. In other words, it will be able to add increased revenue, both for local as well as the communities themselves.
