“Kuluk” or “Tengkuluk” (Women Headgear) of Jambi



One of the cultural wealth Jambi is the habit of women there wearing a head covering or called Kuluk/Tengkuluk. Every district in Jambi has a variety Kuluk/Tengkuluk unique, beautiful and colorful. Despite the inevitable modernization of the flow, kuluk/tengkuluk could still be found in everyday clothing and special events.

In order Kuluk/Tengkuluk not further eroded by modernization, Jambi Province museum with national crafts council area (Dekranasda) Jambi actively popularize its use again on different occasions and is currently the Jambi Provincial Government is also encouraging the re-use of Kuluk/Tengkuluk by women in Jambi on every wednesday.

Kuluk/Tengkuluk is one of the customary complement in the tradition of dressing should be used everyday or for special occasions. This head cover is formed in the folds of a piece of Batik cloth or sarong truly unique and exotic.
